MAD-HR is looking for an experienced HR Consultant (Employee Relations–focused) to join our growing consultancy team. This is a hands-on, delivery-led role, with a strong emphasis on managing a high volume of employee relations cases and providing practical, compliant and commercially balanced HR advice to SME clients. Working in a home-based capacity (ideally within 30 miles of Ipswich) with flexibility to travel to client sites, you will act as a trusted partner to business owners and managers, supporting them to confidently manage a wide range of people issues. While the role offers broader HR exposure, the core requirement is strong, confident and independent ER delivery. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple cases while delivering clear guidance that protects both the business and its people. You’ll play a key role in strengthening client capability through coaching, best practice support, and identifying wider people risks and improvement opportunities.
Work with a diverse portfolio of SME clients across a wide range of sectors, each with different employee relations challenges.
Enjoy the flexibility of home-based working combined with meaningful client-facing delivery.
Be part of a collaborative, values-led consultancy guided by our PARIS values: Passion, Accountability, Results, Integrity and Simplicity.
Focus on practical HR delivery where your advice has a direct and visible impact for clients.
Grow your career in a supportive environment that values pragmatism, learning and continuous improvement.
Deliver hands-on outsourced employee relations support, acting as a trusted advisor to line managers and business owners.
Manage a high volume of ER cases, including disciplinary, grievance, performance, absence, capability and conduct matters.
Provide clear, compliant advice on employment law, best practice and risk management.
Support clients through complex and sensitive situations, including restructures, redundancies, TUPE, organisational change and settlement agreement processes.
Draft and review ER documentation, including letters, outcome reports, settlement agreement paperwork (in liaison with solicitors), without-prejudice correspondence, and ER process guidance.
Coach and upskill managers to handle employee relations matters confidently and consistently.
Identify wider people risks and opportunities, contributing to longer-term HR improvements and client people plans.
Work collaboratively with the wider MAD-HR team (including L&D) where training or intervention would strengthen organisational capability and performance.
CIPD qualified (minimum Level 5).
Strong, demonstrable employee relations experience (essential), including supporting or managing settlement agreements and exit negotiations.
Experience working as an HR Advisor, HR Business Partner or HR Manager, ideally in a fast-paced, high-volume or consultancy environment.
Confident managing complex ER cases independently, from start to finish.
Up-to-date, practical knowledge of UK employment law.
Commercially aware, able to balance legal risk with business reality.
Clear and confident communicator who can build trust quickly with clients.
Organised, resilient and comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Experience working with SMEs is highly desirable.
Exposure to change management, restructuring or TUPE is an advantage.
ER cases are handled confidently, compliantly and pragmatically.
Clients feel supported, reassured and better equipped to manage people issues.
Strong client relationships built on trust, credibility and delivery.
Reduced people risk for clients through consistent, high-quality ER guidance.
A positive contribution to MAD-HR’s reputation as a safe pair of hands for employee relations.
If you thrive on employee relations delivery, enjoy solving complex people issues, and want to be part of a growing, values-led HR consultancy, we would love to hear from you.
Please apply with your CV, current remuneration package and a short statement explaining why this role interests you.
