We value getting to know all about the clients we work with and the faces behind the brands and businesses. Naturally we expect you to want to know more about us too.

To help with that, we’ll be bringing you regular insights into our team, sharing what they love about their work, how they spend their time outside of the office, and what book or film they’re currently immersed in.

Our latest team chat is with Victoria Smith, who recently joined our team with 20 years experience in the world of HR.

NAME – Victoria Smith

ROLE – HR Consultant

AREA YOU COVER – I have recently joined the team to support MAD-HR’s clients within the Norfolk area.

Where do you live?

A small village near the Norfolk Broads

And who with?

My husband Julian, our daughter Charlotte who is 5 and our black 10 month old Labrador Jack!

Tell us a little about your career background:

I did my degree in HR Management and started my career working for the railway.

I then went on to work in manufacturing for a short period but have spent most of my career within hospitality, the automotive industry and more recently within Housing.

I have 20 years experience as a generalist HR professional including 10 years working as an HR Manager.

What do you most enjoy about your particular professional role?

I love the fact that every day is different. I like the variety that the role brings and being able to support people and businesses on their journeys. I have a passion for helping people and getting results.

What attracted you into the world of HR?

I wanted to make a difference and work with people to do that.

Do you have a pet peeve about how others perceive your job?

When people ask what I do I am normally presented with a confused face and a response similar to that of, oh so you do the hiring and firing! HR is so much more than that and I think there is still lots people need to understand about the value HR can add.

If you hadn’t gone into this type of work, what else were you destined to do?

Probably teaching. I think there are actually lots of cross overs. I am just supporting adults instead of children! I enjoy doing training with people too.

What one key thing do you feel people should know about MAD-HR that might surprise or delight them?

We are a strong team of people with a wealth of experience who are all passionate about what we do and delivering great results.

What are you most looking forward to in the year ahead for MAD-HR?

Growing into my role, meeting new clients and building relationships.

How would your colleagues describe you?

Friendly, honest and supportive.

Outside of work, do you have particular things you like to do or places you like to go regularly?

Horses have always been a massive part of my life since I was a child and anything outdoors. I love spending time in the country and now walking my dog with my family and going on adventures!

Do you volunteer, and if so, where and what drives you to do so?

I am on the committee for a local preschool. It is great being able to put something back into the community.

What do you love most about living in this part of the world?

I love the fact I can access open countryside, woodlands, the beach, the Norfolk Broads, lovely towns and a beautiful city all within a short distance of where I live.

How do you like to spend a day off?

Spending time with my family and friends and riding!

Currently reading: I love anything by Sophie Kinsella, especially the Shopaholic series!

Currently listening to: I love Ed Sheeran’s recent song Shivers! It has been on repeat on Alexa in my house.

Currently watching: Peaky Blinders! I was very happy when this returned recently.
